As you get older, the possibility to go after your dreams and passions might feel out of reach. However, that’s not the case at all! Everyday is a new day to attempt to try something new.
Here are 5 seniors showing that age is just a number. They are inspiring people of all ages and showing us that anything is possible… at any age!
Tao Porchon-Lynch
At 100 years old, Tao Porchon-Lynch is still practicing yoga. She is considered the world’s oldest yoga instructor. She started when she was 7 years old and is still going strong. This incredible woman wakes up every morning thinking, “today is going to be the best day ever”.
On her webpage the saying, “There is Nothing You Cannot Do”, is proudly stated in big font for all to see. She believes that yoga can heal individuals and therefore, heal our planet.
Tao has a positive, go-getter attitude that lets nothing get in the way. In addition to practicing yoga, she’s also an award winning ballroom dancer. Age doesn’t limit her possibilities. She is just as active and healthy as she was 50 years ago.
Dale “Greybeard” Sanders
Dale “Greybeard” Sanders has recently broken the record for the oldest person to thru-hike the famous appalachian trail. After seven months of hiking from Georgia to Maine, he finished 2,190 miles of trail.
Even though there were falls, bad weather and rough patches, he got the courage to keep going, not giving up on his dream. This trail is challenging for the average person, let alone an 82 year old. “Greybeard” doesn’t let his age stop him from taking on the challenge of a once in a lifetime adventures.
In fact, in 2015 he paddled the 2,300 mile Mississippi River, making him the oldest person to complete that as well!
Harriette Thompson
If you think running a marathon is unimaginable, think of attempting it at age 92! If you think running a marathon is unimaginable, think of attempting it at age 92! Harriette Thompson finished the San Diego Marathon in 7 hours, 7 minutes and 42 seconds.
She didn’t start running marathons until she was 76 years old. What makes her incredible is that not only has she done this, but she’s done this after being a cancer survivor.
She didn’t let her past get in the way of her future. It’s never too late to try something new!
Charles Eugster
Runner, wakeboarder and bodybuilder, Runner, wakeboarder and bodybuilder, Charles Eugster, is 96 years old. Even in his 90’s he is fitter than ever. When he was 87 years old, he noticed his body was losing its touch. That’s when he joined a body building gym and improved his physique. He was done making excuses and now he says he feels 60… and that’s pushing it. He says the key to health is eating right and exercising.
Lynnea C. Salvo
Lynnea C. Salvo biked across the entire country at the age of 67. She biked from California to Delaware, setting the world record for the oldest person to do so. After 3,163 miles and 59 days, she finished her journey. She made this trek by herself, not making it an excuse that she needed to do it with someone. This woman set out to do an amazing journey and she sure did! Lynnea is the oldest person to bike cross-country!
